Grape varieties

 

With a vine area of 562 hectares the Ahrwine valley is only on position 10 of the
13 German wine growing areas.

On 471 hectares red grapes are grown which is 83,8% of the wine area, on 91 hectare the Ahr vintners grow their white vines. The queen of the vines – the Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) takes with 359 hectares 63,9% of the total area followed by the Frühburgunder with 36 hectares and the Portugieser with 25 hectares, Regent (19ha) and Dornfelder (12ha). On 20 hectares further vines are groesn.

White wines play an inferior role, although remarkable qualities are grown. On 91 hectares the white wine occupies 16,2% of the whole wine-growing area. Riesling (46 ha), Pinot Blanc (16 ha), Müller-Thurgau (15 ha) and others further 14 hectares.
