The term „terroir”has become really popular in Germany during the last
few years. “terroir” describes the influence of climate (temperature and rain),
solar energy and topography (altitude, gradient and direction), geology as well as
hydrology in cooperation with the vines planted, on the special characteristic features of the wine.
Only excellently situated vineyards make it possible to grow wines with a very distinctive character. This is only possible under the condition that the harvest is reduced rigorously and the existence of old deeply enrooted vines is absolutely necessary. Then it is possible to recognize the “terroir” i.e. the soil, the climate etc. in the wine and to enjoy it.
